Hairspray Auditions

I found out a local community theater here in Orem was planning on holding auditions for their upcoming production of Hairspray Thursday and Friday. Now, understand that I have been looking forward to the auditions for quiet a while and waiting for them to announce when they were being held for a least two weeks. So when they were announced, you would understand my dismay because I am still sick with a head cold. ARG!

I was first introduced to Tracy Turnblat and her hysterical mother when I was in the performing group Young Americans. They had a few signature pieces that each new member had to learn and “You Can’t Stop the Beat” was one of them. I had a very love hate relationship with that song because while I loved the song, I was miserable in the group so I didn’t appreciate the song very much.

Then when the movie came out starting Nikki Blonsky and John Travolta I had a chance to see the show unadulterated and unbiased. I LOVED IT!! I saw it with my mother and older sister (being the youngest of the family, everyone is older then me!). We laughed so hard, all three of us were gasping as we left the theater. It is one the greatest shows I had ever seen!

So when the auditions were announce, I was so bummed because my voice is horrible and I didn’t really have anything prepared. Tear! But I am definately going to be seeing it when they open!

So I still think you should audition, bring them in a CD of u performing too so that if they feel so inclined they can listen to it later, but I totally think you should audition. You know what they say, the show MUST go on!!!!!! 🙂
